Primary Purpose:  The Title III LEP (Limited English Proficiency) Intervention Aide reports to the Principal and works with classroom teachers serving English  Learners. The Aide is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher with bilingual interventions and management of the class.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

  1. Assist teachers in preparing instructional interventions.
  2. Conduct formal and informal assessment of student learning styles and linguistic proficiency and use results to plan instructional activities.
  3. Organize and provide interventions to assist students in mastering verbal and written skills in English, coordinated with instruction in the required Bilingual and English as a Second Language Program, with the goal to exit students into the regular education program.
  4. Assist teachers to maintain records indicating progress of the student and assist with the academic and linguistic assessment of the English Language Learners.
  5. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  6. Help teachers prepare required reports.
  7. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  8. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements and state student expectations including English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS).

Student Management

  1. Conduct instructional interventions assigned by the principal/teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  2. Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. 
  3. Create a stimulating, attractive, organized, functional, healthy, and safe educational environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  4. Help students analyze and improve learning strategies, study methods, and habits. 
  5. Keep the principal/teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

Records Management 

  1. Maintain student files as needed.
  2. Maintain confidentiality of information pertaining to students and staff.
  3. Maintain student data for the Bilingual/ESL Department.
  4. Understand and assist in upholding school and district rules, policies, and procedures.

Other

  1. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  2. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  3. Assist with extra-curricular activities, supporting the total program of the school such as interscholastic and intramural sports, academic competition, parents meetings, academic fairs, and fine art programs.
  4. Attend English Learners events to demonstrate genuine interest in the life of the students.
  5. Translate curricular materials or communications/letters (face-to-face, over the phone, in writing) as required by the principal / teacher.

SALARY / WORK DAYS:   

Hourly pay range minimum is $13.43; pay based upon experience; will work 7.5 hours daily, normally work 187 days annually
