Primary Purpose: Maintain training records and provide training to all drivers in the district.

Records, Reports, and Correspondence

  1. Maintain records of all drivers both CDL and non CDL. including when each driver needs to be recertified.
  2. Track expirations of Certification, Physicals, Commercial Drivers license to insure eligibility.
  3. Run Motor Vehicle Records and Clearing House records a minimum of once per year.
  4. Provide training to obtain CDL license and endorsements for all new hires and district coaches.
  5. Check out all CDL licensed new hires and district coaches to ensure their eligibility to operate district buses.
  6. Retrain drivers and other employees as needed.
  7. Evaluate all auxiliary and regular drivers on safety and driving techniques.
  8. Know current laws regarding school bus driving and stay abreast of any changes.
  9. Teach and practice school bus safety. Train drivers in proper school bus evacuation procedures.
  10. Schedule new hires for training and complete new hire paperwork packet.
  11. Continually suggest or recommend to the director/assistant director of transportation any safety ideas which may improve the operation of the department.
  12. Assist in the planning, implementation, administration, and evaluation of the transportation program to meet the requirements of the Waller ISD.
  13. Assist in the establishment of and conducting in-service training and retraining programs for all employees.
  14. Promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areas.
  15. Answer telephone calls and inquiries concerning training.
  16. Drive routes in emergency situations.
  17. Assist in preparation of annual TEA reports.

  1. Assist in the computer operation in the department

Other

  1. Attend meetings as a representative for the Transportation Department when requested by the Director of Transportation. 
  2. Serve as a substitute bus driver and/or monitor as needed.
  3. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; school bus; two-way radio; safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; prolonged driving; moderate walking, climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and reaching

Lifting: Limited light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) on a daily basis

Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; regularly work irregular hours, and occasionally work prolonged hours
